Tonight's Debate: Pay attention to substance.

http://criminalstate.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/usa_israel_flag_large.jpg

Tonight's final presidential debate on foreign policy will be the last chance for voters to see the candidates head-to-head. After tonight, it's back to the negative ads and politics as usual. I cannot express how important it will be that viewers pay close attention to what is being said about foreign policy. Undoubtedly, we will all hear plans and strategies that will involve soaring rhetoric from both sides. Tonight, we should not open our ears just to hear, rather we need to listen. Obama is going to claim that Romney will be no different than Bush when it comes to foreign policy. He will try to persuade viewers that war would be the outcome of a Romney Presidency. Romney will use the recent Benghazi failures to paint the Obama administration as deceptive and weak on foreign policy. With all that will be debated, let us listen for a very important element of U.S. foreign policy. Let us listen intently on the proposals and dealings with Israel. This is the people and nation with which God has made a covenant. He has blessed America because we have stood with them since their rebirth in 1947. In the past three and a half years, America has backed off our support of Israel. President Obama refuses to take strong stands against Israel's Arab enemies (i.e. Iran), and that has led to a plethora of instability in the Middle East. I have no doubt that the current policies regarding Israel have not only affected the Middle East, but I believe America is suffering from them as well. You see, when things are unstable over there, gas prices rise, strapping Americans financially, which results in a slower economy. I also believe that God is withholding His blessing from America because of our current relationship status with Israel. We have not offered our complete support to them, politically, physically (borders and boundaries) nor militarily. So, tonight, listen to the candidates and their position on America's stance on Israeli alliance. This is the most important aspect of the night. Which candidate will offer more substance on this issue? Let's remember that God blesses those who align with Him. Perhaps our current economic crisis and political unrest in America would cease and reverse if we befriended Israel -God's chosen people- once again. Tonight, don't look for a winner.... let's listen and find substance on our stand with Israel. This is the key, I believe, to America's return to prosperity.

Crossing the Line.... The Sin of Androgyny

Puke, Vomit, Hurl. These are the best words I can bring up (pun intended) to describe my disgust for cultural androgyny – the societal blurring of the gender lines. We live in a culture where masculinity is criticized for its rough exterior and insensitivity, and feminism is elevated as the preferred trait among men. To succumb to this idea, it is now acceptable for parents buy their son girls’ jeans and allow him to grow his hair out long enough to make Rapunzel jealous. This same culture that belittles masculinity in men, promotes it for women. Our daughters are told that there are no barriers or rules for dress. Anything goes, even if that means looking the part of their male counterparts. Society warns that it would be an epic failure to ask individuals to don a gender-appropriate hairstyle or wear gender-appropriate attire because “you may damage their psyche” and you might “limit their opportunity to express individuality.” In the 1970s, Sandra Bem – the inventor of t...

Avoiding Factions in Fundamentalism

Factions within fundamental Christianity are ungodly and unattractive. The factions are, for example, those that usually are birthed from education. Specifically, from what I have seen, it pins one school or church doctrine against another. (I know some will be offended by me naming names, but deep down, the following examples are well-known to those who are named) Graduates from Pensacola Christian College are looked poorly upon by Bob Jones graduates, Hyles-Anderson grads and many others (and vice versa). There exists a "rivalry" between Fairhaven folk and the people of First Baptist of Hammond, IN. "Westcoasters" are labeled compromisers by those who consider themselves more conservative. Those who attend Crown College - "Crownies" as they have been deemed - are seen by other fundamentalists as Sextonites . The list goes on and on and includes schools and churches from all around the country. Even smaller local churches try to take on the attribute...

Enabling Parent: Confront yourself, not your child's teacher

Have you ever wrongly blamed someone for something you didn't know you did? I think we've all been there. It's not a pleasant situation to find yourself in for sure, because crow tastes awful. I remember once blaming a college roommate for throwing away a midterm paper I had spent hours writing. I became flustered and angry and said some regrettable things to him. After rewriting my assignment, I headed to the printing lab, where I had left my first report lying at the printing table. Open mouth, insert crow. Fastforward 18 years. I am now an educator, and our school just finished up our first-quarter Parent-Teacher Conference. I dread the Parent-Teacher Conference. My fellow teachers also dread them. Why?  In one word.... Parents.  Today's parents (for the most part) are enablers. The enabling trend has worsened over the years with the ever-increasing influence of technology and the digital age (the connection is worthy of its own blog). Over the last 15...
